Her 1997 memoir Skating to Antarctica, ostensibly about a journey to see the Antarctic ice, also tells much about Diski's early life. Kirkus Reviews comments that " Antarctica is not so much a destination as a symptom in this intense, disturbing memoir of a wickedly unpleasant childhood." As an adult she finds a new haven: the boundless, blank iciness of Antarctica where everything "is colored white and filled with a singing silence."This blistering account interweaves the story of the author's journey to the end of the earth, her daughter's search for Diski's missing mother, and Diski's own search of her memory-hardened heart.

CA 247:- När ”Skating to Antarctica” utkom för sju år sedan tog jag den först för en traditionell reseskildring om den stora vita kontinenten i söder. I actually had other recommendations of Antarctica-based travelogues for my reading list, including the books of Sara Wheeler, but as my curiosity had been piqued by the great acclaim lauded on Jenny DIski, and I decided there was only really room for one Antarctica title on my list, I plumped for Skating to Antarctica. Both journeys begin for Diski when her 18-year-old daughter Chloe decides to search for the maternal grandmother she has never met.
